Production History
For me it all started with that E3 CG teaser trailer, where our idol is sitting on top of a church tower, and the bell rings, y’know what I’m on about? I never watched the Pre E3 teaser, but I suppose some of you must have, its cool, and is well over a year old now. All I knew back then was that you were a cool assassin, with a crossbow, and a blade that comes out of your wrist, and really that’s all I needed to know. From that point onwards, I was hooked.
Then came X06 and no-one can forget the first time that the bubbly Jade Raymond approached the press during with the first live play test of Assassin’s Creed. We get to see him riding into
It was at this point that a lot of previous non-believers saw the light of Ubisoft’s Assassinating power. Apart from the Art Direction Developers diary, everyone was left in the dark, left to ponder about our loved game, hoping desperately for some cool action during E3.We definitely got that, the cool assassination of the slave trader Talal was shown by Jade this time round. Let down in some people’s eyes by that floating guy glitch. We got quite a nice look at the Throwing knives at this point and it was this point that I noticed something. I’d never seen that crossbow. Yeah, it was there during E3 … 06, but that was a CG trailer. That was a temporary disappointment, since I really wanted to smash it into a guard before shooting another one, but it passed quickly. Some of you might have seen that 20 minute extended E3 demo / interview, where Jade shamelessly bragged just about every braggable (not shaggable people…. sick minded
) thing she could think of. But even if you muted the interesting jibbering, you were still left with some cool combat and free running, all thanks to that guy with the name I can never remember.
The interviewer goes to interrogation mode and tries to sneak a bit of info out about the Sci-Fi that we’re starting to see more and more of. We’re left in a twitching heap of hopelessness for over a month with nothing new to tide us over, but it’s at this point that Ubi goes into overdose and fires a bunch of class A gameplay into us, starting with the PAX demonstration. We see more cool stuff and Patrice - the creative director of our game - informs us about all the coolness to be had with the control scheme, or elaborates on it at least. We’re then thrown down to street level where he makes the audience laugh a bit and shows us ‘trouble makers’. Life doesn’t go back to boredom mode after this, shortly after this TGS comes around, with some more gameplay and a gazillion interviews with both Jade and Patrice - the tag team of AC.
More interviews came and went, including two interviews released simultaneously: Jade’s ever repetitive repetition of how we can go anywhere and climb stuff, whilst Patrice tells us something interesting, where the game is now in beta, and they’re straightening out some issues and all the combos and counters now have blood. At this point we start to get a slow but steady flow of written previews coming in. A bit of silence and the Ubi forum members received an email to the AltairWasHere.com trailer, which made me dribble a bit, especially with the glimpses of a neat new sword. Only a few days after this was released did Patrice then make a third Developer Diary: Freedom. It was cool but we didn’t really learn all that much. Just a couple more days pass before IGN posts an interesting advert, with promises of an exclusive preview, with a countdown attached. Suffice to say, the short wait was WELL worth it, we were treated with three new videos: A look at your horse and the Kingdom outside, an assassination walkthrough and an escape through
All this being said, go checkout all the Assassins Creed trailers mentioned. See if you can find any i haven’t. And bravely wait-out this final month before release.
